The kauri snail (Paryphanta busbyi), known to Māori as pūpū-rangi, is a carnivorous snail found in Northland. Although found in kauri forest, the kauri snail often avoids the immediate vicinity of kauri trees because the soil there is usually too dry for the worms it feeds on. Its shell is dark green and 60–80 millimetres in diameter. The snail lays white eggs about a centimetre long in nests of leaf mould on the forest floor.
