The cassette (a double reel of recording tape in a plastic case) was king in 1984, when Maui Records released this four-track 'cassingle' (cassette single). It contains four songs by the Pātea Māori Club, including a 'monster USA breakdance mix' of the group's biggest hit, 'Poi e', released the previous year. Cassettes were cheaper and more durable than records and could be played in any outdoor situation, a great advantage for music designed for breakdancing. Unlike vinyl records, they could also be easily copied, although this was often technically illegal.
