This map names those English counties which sent 2% or more of England’s emigrants to New Zealand during the major flows of the 1870s and early 1880s. The important sources of migration in England were the Home Counties of the south-east, the far south-west, the southern Midlands such as Oxfordshire, and Yorkshire. Other parts of Britain and Ireland which sent people to New Zealand were the lowlands of Scotland, Ulster in the north-east of Ireland and Munster in the south-west.
