Percentage of English-born in the non-Māori population of New Zealand counties, 1878

This map indicates the areas with the greatest concentration of English immigrants in the 1870s. It confirms the significance of the English presence in Canterbury, the southern North Island and Taranaki. If we look at the provinces rather than the counties, Taranaki had the greatest proportion of English-born of any area in New Zealand.
