Through his detailed geological mapping of the Dunedin district, Professor Benson became aware of the wide extend of landsliding in the region. This is one of the first papers in the world to describe a variety of landslide features in layered soft rocks and their close connection with geology (PDF, 1.9 MB). It was published in the Transactions of the Royal Society of New Zealand (1940).
