This table gives a rough indication of the top 20 sites accessed by New Zealand users in 2014. The figures were provided by Alexa, a web analytics company, and were derived from both a sample of internet users and information recieved from sites that chose to install the Alexa script. Site owners could also choose to keep their statistics confidential. The ranking was based on a combination of visitors and pageviews, and shows that over half (12) of the top 20 sites are from the United States. The top New Zealand-based site is Trade Me (despite having a .co.nz url, Google New Zealand is based in the United States), and the other leading New Zealand sites, with the exception of the MetService, are news sites or banks.
