Caxton Press: Speaking for ourselves, 1945

This slim volume of 15 short stories was published under the Caxton Press imprint in 1945, although it had initially been commissioned from Frank Sargeson by the Progressive Publishing Society and was printed, not by Denis Glover, but by Auckland printer Bob Lowry. The collection included stories by David Ballantyne, John Reece Cole, A. P. Gaskell, Maurice Duggan, Helen Shaw and Greville Texidor, some of whom had been mentored by Frank Sargeson. The cover featured an artwork by Eric Lee-Johnson, and was characteristic of his slightly romantic images of decrepit old buildings.
