Sports participation, 1925

  • Number of members

  • Number of clubs and government bodies

This table is derived from the New Zealand official year-book in 1925. The figures are slightly rough since some are estimates, and some figures, such as those for rugby football, include school players. (There were 12,000 school rugby players.) However, the table provides a good sense of the rankings of various sports at that time, and also shows that only tennis, golf, hockey and croquet had a significant number of women players.
