Pāwhiringia te pātene kia kitea te kaitā o ngā hoko whenua Māori ki Te Waipounamu. Otirā mai i te pokapū o te rautau 1800, ko te nuinga o Te Waipounamu kua riro i te ringaringa Māori. Ko te nuinga he mea hoko e te Karauna i mua noa atu i te hanganga o te Kōti Whenua Māori. I roto hoki i ngā ture mō te hoko ka oati te Karauna ki te hanga kura, whare hōhipera, whenua rāhui me ētahi atu painga. Engari auare ake.
