Grey and green horizontal bar graph

These graphs show the results of the 1993 binding referendum on voting systems, in which a majority supported a change to the mixed-member proportional (MMP) system. The result was close, with 53.9% of valid votes supporting a change to MMP and 46.1% wanting to retain first-past-the-post (FPP). The second graph shows that support for MMP was higher in the North Island and among voters on the Māori roll.
