Merton Hodge, a doctor from Poverty Bay, wrote plays throughout his working life. The most successful was The wind and the rain, performed over 1,000 times in London's West End, for six months on New York's Broadway, and in other countries. The play deals with a group of medical students at Edinburgh University, where Hodge studied after graduating from Otago Medical School. This poster is for a 1943 season at the Grand Theatre, Blackpool, UK, in which Hodge himself appears.
