Kōrero: Referendums

This poster was produced by the New Zealand Alliance for the Abolition of the Liquor Traffic to influence people on how to vote in the 1925 referendum on liquor licensing. From 1919 the prohibition referendum usually took place at the same time as the general election. In the poster the responsible family man is encouraged by his son to strike out the top two lines on the ballot paper, thereby voting for national prohibition. The message is that a vote for prohibition is a vote to protect the family from the ill-effects of alcohol.
