Bible in State Schools League

Bible in State Schools League

This flyer advertises a demonstration by supporters of the Bible in schools movement in Auckland in 1913. The movement sought to introduce some Christian education into the secular state-school system. The Protestant dissenting churches were instrumental in leading some of the moral reforms of these years. Supporters of Bible in schools were often also active in movements to restrict the sale of alcohol and to ensure that the sabbath was a day of rest.
