Kōrero: Religion and society

During and immediately after the First World War there was considerable tension in New Zealand over moral and religious issues. The Protestant Political Association (PPA) emerged and campaigned against what it alleged was the undue influence of Catholicism. This cartoon, published in New Zealand Truth in 1919, expressed the PPA's assertion that there was an unholy alliance between Liberal leader Joseph Ward, the Catholic church and socialism.
