The International Year of the Child in 1979 was a United Nations initiative to mark the 20th anniversary of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. Events in New Zealand included a fund-raising Telethon, conferences and exhibitions. Books and papers were published relating to the year and the general topic. This poster was published by the New Zealand National Commission for the International Year of the Child. This illustration by Dick Frizzell of a toddler who has tried to dress himself comes from a book by Trish Gribben, Pyjamas don't matter, or what your baby really needs (1979). It conveys the message that parents should praise their children and acknowledge small successes, even if the results are not perfect.
