Kōrero: South Pacific economic relations

During the 1930s and 1940s the New Zealand government-owned vessel Maui Pomare was the main trade and tourist link between New Zealand and its South Pacific territories. This advertising poster from about 1930 promotes tours to Samoa, Niue and Norfolk Island. The image on the poster shows Apia, the capital of Western Samoa. The ship was named for the Māori politician who was minister for the Cook Islands from 1916 to 1928.
