Kōrero: Insurance

South British was formed in Auckland in 1872 as a fire and marine insurance company, by migrants from England. This advertising poster from about the 1950s shows the female figure Zealandia, representing New Zealand, holding the national flag and a ship’s anchor, a reminder of the company’s reliance on marine insurance. South British later changed hands a number of times and was part of the Sovereign Insurance group in the early 2000s.
