The introduction of the Alpha-Laval cream separator transformed the dairy industry in the early years of the 20th century. The previous system, where farmers took milk to factories and the cream was removed to make butter and cheese, became redundant. With the separator, farmers were able to do the job at home. Having to transport only the cream reduced transport and production costs. This advertisement for the separator is from 1908.
