Te Ara's Twitter feed began in early 2009, with a tweet about the site's most popular image, the disturbing-looking blobfish (Psychrolutes species). Since then Te Ara has regularly tweeted on subjects of interest to users of the site. By early 2015 Te Ara tweets totalled more than 11,000, and there were more than 7,000 followers.
