When the Cagli and Pompei Royal Italian Opera Company appeared in Auckland in 1871 they performed a different opera every night for five nights in succession, as this advertisement shows. All of these operas – La traviata, Don Pasquale, Il trovatore, Lucia di Lammermoor and La sonnambula – had been seen in New Zealand before, when the Lyster Company toured in 1864.
