The Truth about homies

The Truth about homies

In January 1924 the populist newspaper New Zealand Truth published an attack on 'homies', as migrants from the 'home' country (Great Britain) were known in New Zealand at the time. Following the First World War there had been a considerable migration of British immigrants, some of them the wives of New Zealand soldiers. In this subsequent article Truth reprinted letters from outraged British immigrants hitting back at the criticism. The paper's comments revealed prejudice against women as well as against 'homies'.
