New Zealand goes it alone

1901 was an important year in New Zealand’s history. From 1860 onwards there had been talk of the Australian colonies becoming one country. But in 1901 New Zealand declined to join the new Australian Federation. Before and after federation, New Zealand’s relationship with its larger neighbour was lampooned in cartoons such as this one in Melbourne Punch.
