The 'bugger ad' and changing attitudes, 1999 (2 o 2)

The 'bugger ad' and changing attitudes, 1999

This cartoon comments on the fact that the Advertising Standards Complaints Board (ASCB) decided that a 1999 advertisement for Toyota, known popularly as the 'bugger ad', was acceptable for television. Members of the public had complained that the swear word used in the advertisement was offensive. The authority held that the word 'bugger', especially in the humorous context of the advertisement, was not offensive.
