In this cartoon by Bob Brockie from August 1986, David Lange turns up his nose at the continued support for nuclear arms displayed by Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke and United States President Ronald Reagan. By 1986 New Zealand's refusal to admit US nuclear-powered or -armed ships had disrupted the ANZUS alliance and severely strained Australia's close relationship with New Zealand.
