Fashion from London and Paris

In the 19th century London and Paris were the fashion capitals and women's clothing in New Zealand followed the trends set in the northern hemisphere. Local newspapers contained columns and illustrations about the London and Paris clothes so New Zealand women could follow the fashion, albeit with some delay. This 1898 column from the newspaper's London correspondent illustrates dress sleeves direct from Paris.
