This painted dartboard, which appeared in a Lion Breweries pub in Ōtaki, suggests the intensity of the competition between Lion and Dominion Breweries in the second half of the 20th century. By 1970 virtually all beer sold in New Zealand was made by one of this duopoly. It was not until the very end of the century that small new breweries began to emerge to provide a fairly mild challenge.
