Whitefish

Whitefish

The whitefish does not occur in New Zealand – but not for want of trying. It is a good-eating lake fish of high latitudes of the northern hemisphere. Acclimatisers imported millions of ova and released hatchlings into lakes throughout New Zealand in the late 1800s and early 1900s. But their efforts were wasted, as the species failed to become established.
