Viewing platform, Franz Josef Glacier

Viewing platform, Franz Josef Glacier

In 1907 the Franz Josef Glacier was advancing, and a viewing platform was built for tourists to look over the front of the glacier. It continued to advance, and the viewing platform was swept away in 1909. The builders of the platform had been unlucky in their choice of site – this was as far as the glacier extended in the 20th century.
