Kōrero: Intellectual property law

'Sure to rise', 1912

In 1912 Thomas Edmonds, a successful manufacturer of baking powder and other food goods, employed Climie, Coates and Company to act for him in a trademark application. The elaborate logo, shown on the application, included the rising sun and the words ‘sure to rise’, both still in use in 2014. Edmonds had been selling his baking powder (the first product he made) since 1879.
