Blackball miners' housing, 1919

These photographs of miners' housing at Blackball are from the report of the Board of Trade into the coal industry, published in 1919. Concerns over the state of the coal industry had led the government to launch this inquiry in 1918. A major focus of the study was the housing and social conditions of the miners and their families. This part of the investigation was carried out by architect and town planner Samuel Hurst Seager.
