Richard Seddon welcomes the All Blacks, 1906

The government provided a great deal of support for the 1905 All Black team once they began to be successful in the UK. The government helped transmit telegraphed results of the games, and rewarded the team with an 'American picnic' (a trip across the United States on the way home). Premier Richard Seddon himself travelled to Auckland to welcome the team when they landed on 6 March 1906. Here Seddon (right) speaks to the crowd of supporters on the wharf.
