Kōrero: Sport and the nation

On 6 March 1906 the All Blacks, returning from their first tour of Britain, arrived by ship in Auckland Harbour from the United States. By then they had become such national heroes that there were some 10,000 people to greet them on the wharf. Premier Richard Seddon (standing, far right) had travelled north for the occasion, and welcomed the team home before the cheering audience.
