Auckland Racing Club was one of the major metropolitan clubs that organised meetings over several days. These images from the three-day winter racing carnival held in June 1935 give an idea of how well attended and fashionable such events were. Dressing up for the races is an old tradition that still applies for big race days – one of the few occasions in modern life when women still wear hats.
