Kōrero: Political parties

NewLabour, 1990

This 1990 NewLabour Party advertisement featured a painting, ‘The gift’, by Sally Griffin. The text, by Peter Lee, explained the symbolism of the painting which included images of several notable politicians, including (on the right-hand side) Roger Douglas, Helen Clark and David Lange, and (to the left) early Labour leader Harry Holland. It aimed to highlight the difference between the ideals of the Labour Party of the past and that of the party in the 1980s.
