Kōrero: Ombudsmen and officers of Parliament

Provision of official information

This letter responds to a complaint about the provision of official information. Susan Butterworth of the Professional Historians Association of New Zealand/Aotearoa (PHANZA) was initially refused access to documents relating to the restructuring of the Department of Internal Affairs, Archives New Zealand and the National Library in 2010. However, after she complained to the ombudsman, the documents were released. Information may be withheld, but only on certain grounds, and every year the ombudsmen receive many requests for reviews of refusals to provide information.
