United Friendly Societies' dispensary

This image of a United Friendly Societies' dispensary is a detail from a panorama of Courtenay Place, Wellington, in 1923. The friendly societies began providing financial support for members in times of sickness and death. However, in the early 20th century their role expanded to include free medical consultations and cheaper medicines at UFS pharmacies.
