Layout of the Mapourika

The Mapourika was completed in 1898 and used on the Wellington–Nelson–West Coast run. She was described as having ‘accommodation for about 160 first-class passengers and 34 second class. The first-class are arranged generally in two-berth and four-berth staterooms, the berths having Hoskin’s spring buttons, a folding lavatory, railway nettings, and the other usual stateroom furniture. The second-class are arranged in large compartments forward on the main and lower decks, the sofa-beds folding up during the daytime.’
