When new members joined long-established trade unions they were often given a handsome certificate showing the union’s pride in its skills, principles and traditions. The background of this certificate, showing a variety of crafts and activities, has been used by trade unions since about 1867. The NZ Carpenters and Related Trades Industrial Union of Workers has used the image for its membership certificate from about the 1980s.
