Kōrero: City parks and green spaces

Plan of Christchurch

This plan, drawn up by the Department of Lands and Survey around the 1890s, shows Hagley Park’s proximity to Christchurch city centre. The park’s wide open spaces contrast with the densely packed city sections – a reminder of the foresight of the first planners of Christchurch, who set aside the park in 1850.
