From 1858 Auckland province attempted to encourage migrants from the UK by offering 40 acres (16 hectares) to each person in the family 18 years or over, and 20 acres (8 hectares) for each child. Much of the land was around the Kaipara Harbour. This poster was issued by Joseph Newman, who was the provincial emigration agent in Liverpool.
