Kōrero: Canterbury region

Early map of Akaroa

Some of Canterbury’s first settlers were French. This map is part of a deed of sale for land between the Nanto-Bordelaise Company and purchaser Joseph Marie Le Tellier. In 1840 the company sent emigrants to Banks Peninsula, where they established the settlement of Akaroa.
