Jack Lovelock's win in the 1,500 metres at the 1936 Berlin Olympics is remembered for his stunning, record-breaking performance. At 300 metres from the finish Lovelock put on a burst of speed, leaving the American Glenn Cunningham and Italian Luigi Beccali well behind in his wake when he crossed the line. His time of three minutes 47.8 seconds was a new world record for this distance.
