Collecting skin samples

Scientists study the DNA of animals to understand how closely related they are within a group and between different groups. They can also help determine how closely related different species are. Here, tiny skin samples are being collected from dolphins with the use of a dart gun. This gives useful information about the structure of a population, and can help scientists decide how to conserve the animals.
