This programme from January 2009 celebrates 25years of Te karere. As the clip explains, Te karere began as a four-minute daily news programme in te reo Māori (the Māori language). Later extended to 15 minutes, it became a daily half-hour bulletin in 2009. This clip features some of those who pioneered Te karere, including founder and first presenter Derek Fox, editor Moari Stafford, and Whai Ngata, a former reporter. Fox points out that initially the programme had little internal support. The celebration was slightly delayed, as Te karere had begun in 1983.
