New Zealand pavilion at Shanghai Expo 2010

This news report shows the New Zealand pavilion on the eve of its opening at Shanghai Expo 2010 in China. To contrast with the smoggy urban environment of Shanghai, New Zealand offered a roof-top garden showing off the natural beauty of the country, complete with a plastic pōhutukawa tree. The film clip suggests the motivations that led successive New Zealand governments to invest in such international expos – the desire to attract tourists, to promote exports and business opportunities, and to create a positive image of New Zealanders as an innovative people. In Shanghai the New Zealand pavilion also presented New Zealand as a good educational destination.
