Alex Monteith, 2.5 kilometre mono action for a mirage, 2006

Much of Alex Monteith’s work has focused on physical activity – farming, surfing and, in this case, motorcycling. Here a motocross rider pulls a wheelie along 2.5 kilometres of beach north of Muriwai. Monteith's gallery-based works are large-scale, often depicting activities that engage with land, sea or air in expansive ways.
