The annual ASB Polyfest, which celebrates Cook Islands, Māori, Niuean, Samoan and Tongan cultures, started in Auckland in 1976. Secondary-school students perform traditional song and dance routines before huge, enthusiastic crowds. This 2010 clip from Television New Zealand's Te karere programme shows footage from the festival over the years.
