Edmund Anscombe was the architect of the Centennial Exhibition fair, which was held at Rongotai, in Wellington, for six months from November 1939. Once the fair was in full operation, Anscombe shot a film of the scene. It was silent but was in colour – one of New Zealand's first colour films. This clip shows the central concourse, William Trethewey's statue of Kupe, which stood at the head of the main pool, the miniature railway and the roller coaster. Not shown are the more serious parts of the fair such as the Government Court.
