Kōrero: Feature film

Skin deep, 1978

'No better launch for a fledgling film industry can be imagined', said the Hollywood trade magazine Variety in October 1978, after Geoff Steven's drama Skin deep opened in the United States. This film was the first major investment for the newly formed New Zealand Film Commission. A disillusioned city masseuse (played by Deryn Cooper) causes havoc among the locals when she relocates to a small New Zealand town (Raetihi was the chosen location). This clip shows the aftermath of an early act of protest, when a pot plant was thrown against the massage premises.
