New Zealand's first medal in an international gymnastics competition was a gold medal for the women's vault. Watch this television news clip from the 1990 Commonwealth Games, held in New Zealand. Aucklander Nikki Jenkins delivered a superb performance to take the gold over more highly favoured Canadian gymnasts. She was then aged 14, making her the youngest-ever New Zealand gold medallist at either the Commonwealth or Olympic Games.
